The Hideout

It's recommended you know what Discord is before you read this.

I'm a very active Discord user. I play a lot of games, and I like to call my friends when we play a game together. It's a great, free app, and I like to use it.

I don't like joining communities, I always want to manage them, I've always liked to manage these groups. The Hideout is an example out of many.

My goal was to create a large-scale community on the platform. To achieve that, you either need to be a large content creator with your own fanbase, or you'll need to create something, new, fresh, a community for a group of people where not many communities exist for.

So, I started brainstorming about what a community I could create. I'm still a late teen at the time of writing, and I would like a group of people with the same ideas as me, but also people that could inspire me, so I chose to try building a community of young people like me, to find friends to play their games with.

I have a lot of experience building servers (group chats on Discord) on discord, so I built the server, and It looked great. I had all the channels I needed, the server was optimised for it's purposes.

The server was also well moderated. Like many online platforms, Discord can attract bad actors, so moderation was important. Because the community was aimed at teenagers, its focus on gaming and voice calls made inappropriate behavior easier to notice and deal with.

So… the server was ready to attract members. It had a colourful logo, the name sounded good to me, and I'd expected to get some mebers within a few days. However, it didn't. in a few months time, we only attracted around ten inactive members. That was the moment I decided to give up, and I stopped working on the server. It was kind of sad, but success is never guaranteed.
